Choosing Water Heaters For The Home

If you want hot water in your home, then you are going to require a water heater to achieve that goal. If you live in an older home, you may want to consider replacing your water heater because there are many energy efficient water heaters on the market today that will save you money on your energy costs as well as provide you with more and hotter hot water for your home.

You have two types of hot water heaters to choose from today, tankless and traditional hot water heaters. Tankless models offer you the ability to get water instantly anywhere in your home. Tankless heaters offer water on demand and an unlimited supply as well. This type of water heater can be installed at the source of the item that needs heated water (such as the dishwasher or shower) or in a central location much like a traditional water heater. If you are considering a tankless water heater, you need to be aware that they are rated for different situations. If you have a large family and want to heat water for the entire home then you need to choose one that is rated as a whole house hot water heater. In addition, you may want to consider two if you have a large home.

For traditional water heaters you want to look for an energy star rating. Newer models offer more energy efficiency than older models, however, their energy efficiency can't match the efficiency of a tankless water heater. The reason for this is that a traditional hot water heater stores and heats water throughout the day. When the water reaches a preset heated temperature the heater tuns off; once the water cools off the unit turns back on and starts heating the water again. It is the short term costs of a traditional hot water heater that keeps it so popular in the market. A tankless heater costs about twice as much as a traditional water heater.

You can choose you water heater from many different brands such as Renai, Ruud, Craftmaster, Moritz, Takagi, Atwood, GE, Rheem and more. Most water heaters come with a good manufacturer warranty that will protect you from early problems with your hot water heater.

No matter what type of water heater you purchase for your home, make sure that it is installed correctly. If you aren't a handy person then hire a professional to do the job. It is better to pay a bit more for instillation than to create a problem by installing it wrong, which will also void the warranty.
